چکیده

Abstract: DCPD technique is powerful tool for quantitative NDE of cracks. The technique using four probes which are in close proximity to each other has been proposed for NDE of surface cracks; that is the closely coupled probes potential drop (CCPPD) technique. It has been shown that the sensitivity of the CCPPD technique is enhanced significantly in comparison with the usual method. The objective of this study was to advance the CCPPD technique. An appropriate probes distance to enhance reproducibility was found by experiment. The d-c potential fields were analyzed for many cases of crack length 2a, crack depth b and material thickness t by using FEM. By using the numerical results, the calibration equation which relate the potential drop to a, b, and t was obtained. Then the procedure to evaluate crack depth more accurately in two steps was proposed. Experiments validated the use of the technique for NDE of surface cracks.

Potential Drop Imaging Technique for Sensitive Nde of Small Surface Cracks

This paper reports the potential drop technique as an imaging tool for the clear identification and sensitive evaluation of very small surface cracks. The distributions of d-c potential drop around the surface cracks are obtained by scanning the closely coupled probes potential drop sensor, and a methodology for evaluating a 3-D crack from the potential drop profiles measured across and along t...

The Dc Electrical Potential Method for the Measumment of Fretting Cracks

As fretting fatigue cracks are initiated at an early stage of life, the fretting fracture process is dominated by the stable growth of cracks. Hence the measurement of crack length is very important. This paper demonstrates the suitability of the DC potential drop technique for the measurement of fretting cracks. A calibration has been established for monitoring crack growth in BS L65 copper al...

Nondestructive Measurement of the Respose of Rear-wall Flaws in Thick-walled Structures Using Dc Four-point-probes Technique

Repeatable and accurate evaluation of flaws from the inaccessible sides of thick-walled structures is still remained as one of the hurdles in the field of NDE of flaws. The present paper describes the development of an effective DC potential-drop measuring system for evaluating the response of rear wall flaws, especially in thick-walled structures, in which an ideal averaging scheme is introduc...

Using open-ended rectangular waveguide probe for detection and sizing of fatigue cracks in metals - Electronics Letters

Introduction: There are several electromagnetic techniques that can be used for detecting surface-breaking cracks in metals, including potential drop, AC field measurement and eddy current methods. Each method possesses its own advantages and limitations in a specific application. In recent years, the use of microwaves has shown an increasing potential and success as a new technique for non-des...
